From a young age, Sharmain was immersed in creativity, first learning to knit under the guidance of their mother and later exploring various artistic disciplines in high school, including woodwork, sewing, lino cutting, charcoal drawing, embroidery, and leather work. However, it was in 2010, after dedicating 20 years to a non-creative career, that Sharmain began her journey into painting, finding a true calling in this form of expression. By 2016, Sharmain transitioned to painting full-time, fully embracing the art that had always been part of her spirit.

Acrylic paint became the preferred medium due to its quick drying time, which suits Sharmain's layered approach to painting, allowing her to build complex textures and intricate details without delay. Sharmain’s work is heavily influenced by a love of colour, the richness of textiles and tapestries, embroidery, and the principles of interior design. Viewers often marvel at the layers and textures in Sharmain's paintings, drawn to the details that reveal themselves upon closer inspection.

Growing up in the scenic Yarra Valley near the Yarra River in Victoria, Sharmain developed a deep appreciation for beauty and nature that continues to inspire her art. Today, Sharmain is based in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, where they are fortunate to have a home studio. This space is a creative haven where Sharmain spends nearly every day, nurturing her art with dedication and passion.
